What is Post Tensioning?

Steel cables are used to provide high tensile strength to a slab as the concrete provides the compressive strength. This marriage of two complementing materials is achieved by first laying out a network of cables then pouring the concrete over them. When the concrete hardens and meets certain strength requirements, the cables are pulled by a hydraulic jack to thousands of pounds of pressure then held in place by anchors. This reinforcing system is commonly used on parking garages, sky rises, tanks, bridges, and residential foundations.

PTC Inc. was founded in 1994 by Carl Bumpass. Carl is a licensed architect with over 50 years experience and 25 years experience in general contracting. In 2008, Carl transferred leadership to his daughter, Dawn Kori. Carl remains an active consultant and advisor to the company. Dawn Kori, President of PTC, Inc., holds dual Bachelor of Science Degrees, in Civil Engineering and Fisheries. She has worked along side her father gaining comprehensive understanding of the post tensioning systems. Dawn’s extensive knowledge of resolving preliminary design issues and finding solutions to onsite problems assists in constructability of projects.
